Sleep Apnea Treatment Barrington
If you feel tired during the day, snore excessively, suffer from nighttime heartburn or can’t breathe well when you lie down, it may be an indication that you suffer from sleep apnea. Many people who have this condition don’t realize it, writing off their symptoms as normal occurrences. At Hart Dental, our team can ensure that you get the best possible treatment for your situation.
A Full Evaluation
Once we’ve determined that you may have sleep apnea, we can arrange a sleep study at home or in the hospital. A hospital setting allows for several types of precise measurements, though at home in your normal environment may give a more accurate picture of your typical sleep cycles.
You’ll be diagnosed by a board-certified sleep physician, who interprets the results and will share them with Dr. Iwona or Dr. Aggie to determine the best course of action.
Diplomate of the ABDSM
In order to better serve patients who suffer from sleep-disordered breathing, Dr. Iwona became a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Sleep Medicine (ABDSM). By actively investing in her training, she is one of the few in our area to have received the highest credential a dentist can earn in dental sleep medicine. To be a Diplomate means that she provides better patient care and holds herself to greater accountability when it comes to treating patients for sleep apnea. This credential is widely recognized as the gold standard for excellence in dental sleep medicine.
Step by Step Guide for WatchPAT System
WatchPAT
Dr. Iwona uses the WatchPAT home sleep study, a revolutionary diagnostic tool designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of your sleep patterns in the comfort of your own home. This portable and user-friendly device monitors key sleep parameters, including oxygen saturation, heart rate, and respiratory events, delivering valuable insights into potential sleep disorders such as sleep apnea.
Treatments for Sleep Apnea
If you have mild to moderate sleep apnea, an oral appliance can be used, often in conjunction with a CPAP. The removal of your tonsils, adenoids or nasal polyps may be appropriate, though the body’s soft tissues can grow back over time.
In more severe cases, weight loss, surgery or CPAP use is advised. We’ll be involved each step of the way ensuring that you receive the best possible care and advice.
If you’re concerned about sleep apnea, contact us today to schedule your evaluation. We’re here for you 24 hours a day and have same-day appointments available.
